Philosophy

“Philosophers don’t agree”

“There’s no certainty in philosophy”

“Paul said to “beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy’” (Col 2:8)

When reason, existence, knowledge, values, mind, and language are discussed and examined.

“Good philosophy must exist if for no other reason than to refute bad philosophy”

                                                                                                - C. S. Lewis, Weight of Glory

What is studied in philosophy?

  • Metaphysics – What is real?
  • Epistemology – How do we know?
  • Ethics – What is right, good or moral?
  • Logic – How should we think?
  • Ontology – The study of being?
  • Semantics/Hermeneutics – meaning and interpretation?
  • Philosophy of religion – What or Who is ultimate?
  • Aesthetics – What is beautiful?

It is the discipline that studies the foundational elements of other disciplines such as science, history, religion etc.

What philosophy is not

it is Not how one “feels” about a topic

it is Not limited to an examination of worldviews only

it doesn’t amount to skepticism even though much philosophy is skeptical

remember

“Philosophers don’t agree”

“There’s no certainty in philosophy”

“Paul said to “beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy’” (Col 2:8)

Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.
